The Dog Food Miracle by Sue French #AFFILIATE_URL# We've all heard a lot about the supposedly poor quality of commercially produced, artificial "junk food" for dogs since the terrible pet food recall that happened in March 2007. It's all settled down now, so do we really need to be worrying about it still? I must say, when I received a copy of this book to review, I was a bit skeptical. The author claims to have accidentally and "miraculously" rejuvenated her old dog when it was almost at death's door, simply by changing the way she fed it. Now that I have read the book, I have to say, I am convinced. Here is a book, well written, very readable and easy to understand. The author describes the changes that took place in her dog after she stopped feeding it "artificial" food, then goes on to outline alternative feeding options based on her own, considerable, lifetime experience with dogs, laced with a good helping of commonsense. This book is for you if: you have a new puppy, and are wanting to give it the best start in life you have an old dog that seems sleepy or lethargic your dog suffers from any of the following: "dogsbreath" doggy B.O. itchy "hotspots" offensive stools hyperactivity lethargy stiffness in muscles and joints obesity abnormal "craving" for food you would like to find a wholesome way to feed your dog, but you are confused by all the conflicting advice that is available. With her commonsense, unbiased approach, the author easily removes the confusion and doubt surrounding the question of what is the best way to feed dogs. How do you feed your dog? I must say, that since the dreadful pet food recall in March 2007 (and there have been more since then), I often have found myself wondering if I am doing the best I can for my dog. I'm busy (like we all are), and the ease and speed with which I can tip a cupful or two of dry pellets into the dog's bowl has had great appeal. Besides, there's so much controversy about feeding dogs - raw food (is it safe?); B.A.R.F. diet (what the heck is that?); home-cooked (is it nutritious?) any time I thought about it, I ended up putting it all in the "too hard" basket. Well, I can report, I have it all sorted now. A few weeks ago I was given a copy of a new book to review. It is "The Dog Food Miracle" by Sue French. Sue's life, from childhood to the present day, has been filled with dogs and other animals; she is old enough to remember when commercial pet food was not the most common feeding choice for dog owners. #AFFILIATE_URL# I read the book, wrote my review, and then decided I would try out Sue's advice. Let me tell you, I am now a total convert to home prepared, wholesome, "real" dog food. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be - sure, nothing is as quick or easy as pouring out the kibble - but you know what? My dog is really part of the family, very precious to me and now that I've started doing it, preparing her food has become just another part of my routine, easily merged in with preparing meals for my family. Seeing my dog enjoying food I have prepared myself, knowing that food is safe and nutritious has given me a deep sense of satisfaction. Now in her book, the author describes almost unbelievable improvements that she observed in her dog's well being after she stopped feeding it what she calls "junk food". I was a bit skeptical about this, but guess what? I have noticed a few improvements in my own dog.
